View by multiple tags thebrain7/24/2023 Rather the key to any lasting productivity system is to keep it as simple as possible and to use it as often as possible. Allen doesn’t even make a case for digital over analog systems. GTD doesn’t require a specific tool, app, or product. Though the basis of GTD are these five simple steps, they’re not always easy to execute. Some very specific but seemingly mundane behaviors, when applied, produce the capacity to exist in a kind of sophisticated spontaneity, which, in my experience, is a key element to a successful life. Instead, you’ll be able to respond to incoming information calmly and prioritize your time confidently. You’ll no longer worry about forgetting a deadline or missing an important task. While GTD requires an upfront investment in time and energy to set up, it pays off with consistent use. Review: Frequently look over, update, and revise your lists.Įngage: Get to work on the important stuff. Add dates to your calendar, delegate projects to other people, file away reference material, and sort your tasks. Organize: Put everything into the right place. Decide if an item is a project, next action, or reference. Nothing is too big or small! These items go directly into your inboxes.Ĭlarify: Process what you’ve captured into clear and concrete action steps. The GTD method is made up of five simple practices to systematize the clutter in your brain and get things done:Ĭapture Everything: Capture anything that crosses your mind. The key to GTD isn’t the specific tools you choose but rather the habits you employ on a daily basis to think about and prioritize your work. We'll be focusing on how to GTD with Todoist, but the same principles apply no matter what app you use. This guide will introduce you to GTD principles and workflows, and what we think is the most intuitive way to implement them. Have never GTD'd before (everyone should GTD at least once in their lives) Starts lots of projects but have trouble finishing them When your GTD workflow is set up right, you’ll be able to confidently answer “what should I be working on?” at any given moment without worrying that you might forget something important you need to do later.įeel overwhelmed by the amount of things you need to keep track of His GTD method lays out how to dump all your mental clutter into an external system and then organize it so you can focus on the right things at the right times. When information piles up in your head, it leads to stress, overwhelm, and uncertainty.Īllen observed that our brains are much better at processing information than storing it ("your head's a crappy office"). As a result, you spend more time thinking about your tasks than actually doing them. The methodology is based on a simple truth: The more information bouncing around inside your head, the harder it is to decide what needs attention. Most of the actual information processing in the brain takes place in the cerebral cortex.Getting Things Done, or GTD for short, is a popular task management system created by productivity consultant David Allen. The telencephalon contains the largest part of the brain, the cerebrum. The diencephalon contains structures such as the thalamus and hypothalamus which are responsible for such functions as motor control, relaying sensory information, and controlling autonomic functions. There are two major divisions of forebrain: the diencephalon and the telencephalon. The forebrain is the division of the brain that is responsible for a variety of functions including receiving and processing sensory information, thinking, perceiving, producing and understanding language, and controlling motor function.

A similar process occurs between Mg atoms and O atoms, except in this case two electrons are transferred: In electron transfer, the number of electrons lost must equal the number of electrons gained. Ionic bonds are caused by electrons transferring from one atom to another. The attraction between oppositely charged ions is called an ionic bond, and it is one of the main types of chemical bonds in chemistry. Where we have written the final formula (the formula for sodium chloride) as per the convention for ionic compounds, without listing the charges explicitly. This is what happens to the Na + and Cl − ions: From basic physics, we know that opposite charges attract. Resulting in two ions - the Na + ion and the Cl − ion:īoth species now have complete octets, and the electron shells are energetically stable. An electron transfers from the Na atom to the Cl atom: The two atoms have these Lewis electron dot diagrams and electron configurations:įor the Na atom to obtain an octet, it must lose an electron for the Cl atom to gain an octet, it must gain an electron. Now consider an Na atom in the presence of a Cl atom. The octet rule is a result of trends in energies and is useful in explaining why atoms form the ions that they do. It turns out that the Na + ion has a complete octet in its new valence shell, the n = 2 shell, which satisfies the octet rule. However, that requires much more energy than is normally available in chemical reactions, so sodium stops at a 1+ charge after losing a single electron. We could remove another electron by adding even more energy to the ion, to make the Na 2+ ion. It is rather reactive, however, and does not require a lot of energy to remove that electron to make the Na + ion. Consider sodium: in its elemental form, it has one valence electron and is stable. It is not impossible to violate the octet rule. When atoms form compounds, the octet rule is not always satisfied for all atoms at all times, but it is a very good rule of thumb for understanding the kinds of bonding arrangements that atoms can make. The trend that atoms like to have eight electrons in their valence shell is called the octet rule. For whatever reason, having eight electrons in a valence shell is a particularly energetically stable arrangement of electrons. The lower shell, now the valence shell, has eight electrons in it, so the atom becomes positively charged. Either atoms gain enough electrons to have eight electrons in the valence shell and become the appropriately charged anion, or they lose the electrons in their original valence shell. The astute reader may have noticed something: Many of the ions that form have eight electrons in their valence shell. In the section “Lewis Electron Dot Diagrams”, we saw how ions are formed by losing electrons to make cations or by gaining electrons to form anions. Demonstrate electron transfer between atoms to form ionic bonds. The resulting Na+ and F– ions are electrically attracted to each other.Īt the macroscopic scale, ionic compounds form lattices, are crystalline solids under normal conditions, and have high melting points. Formation of NaF: An electron is transferred from Na to F. The ions produced are oppositely charged and are attracted to one another due to electrostatic forces. In this reaction, the sodium atom loses its single valence electron to the fluorine atom, which has just enough space to accept it. One example of an ionic bond is the formation of sodium fluoride, NaF, from a sodium atom and a fluorine atom. Another atom, typically a non-metal, is able to acquire the electron(s) to become a negative ion, or anion. The bond is formed when an atom, typically a metal, loses an electron or electrons, and becomes a positive ion, or cation. Ionic bonds involve a cation and an anion. An ionic bond is based on attractive electrostatic forces between two ions of opposite charge. This exchange results in a more stable, noble gas electronic configuration for both atoms involved. Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bond in which valence electrons are lost from one atom and gained by another. electronegativity: The tendency of an atom to attract electrons to itself.electrolyte: An ionic compound which dissolves in H2O, making the resulting solution capable of conducting electricity.Ionic solids form crystalline lattices, or repeating patterns of atoms, with high melting points, and are typically soluble in water. They both achieve a more stable electronic configuration through this exchange. A cation is formed when a metal ion loses a valence electron while an anion is formed when a non-metal gains a valence electron.Ionic bonds are formed between cations and anions.

7 speed reading vs superlearner7/23/2023 This doesn’t mean that we’re necessarily stuck reading at the same speed all the time, however. Without such knowledge, they often don’t remember much of what they’ve read and aren’t able to answer substantive questions about the text. Investigations show that these individuals generally already know a lot about the topic or content of what they have supposedly speed-read. While some may claim prodigious speed reading skills, these claims typically don’t hold up when put to the test. “So-called solutions that emphasize speeding up the input without making the language easier to understand will have limited efficacy,” says Schotter. The biggest obstacle, science shows, isn’t our vision but rather our ability to recognize words and process how they combine to make meaningful sentences. The problem, Schotter and colleagues find, is that eye movements account for no more than 10% of the overall time we spend reading, and eliminating the ability to go back and reread previous words and sentences tends to make overall comprehension worse, not better. Some speed reading technologies claim to offer an additional boost by eliminating the need to make eye movements by presenting words rapidly in the center of a computer screen or mobile device, with each new word replacing the previous word. Reading is a complex dance among various visual and mental processes, and research shows that skilled readers already read quickly, averaging 200 to 400 words per minute. “The available scientific evidence demonstrates that there is a trade-off between speed and accuracy - as readers spend less time on the material, they necessarily will have a poorer understanding of it,” explains Schotter. The report, published in Psychological Science in the Public Interest, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, shows that that there are no magic shortcuts when it comes to reading more quickly while still fully understanding what we’ve read. “We wanted to take a close look at the science behind reading to help people make informed decisions about whether to believe the claims put forth by companies promoting speed reading technologies and training courses.” “Speed reading training courses have been around for decades, and there has been a recent surge in the number of speed reading technologies that have been introduced to the consumer market,” says Elizabeth Schotter, a psychological scientist at the University of California, San Diego and one of the authors of the report. Examining decades’ worth of research on the science of reading, a team of psychological scientists finds little evidence to support speed reading as a shortcut to understanding and remembering large volumes of written content in a short period of time. Learning to speed read seems like an obvious strategy for making quick work of all the emails, reports, and other pieces of text we encounter every day, but a comprehensive review of the science behind reading shows that the claims put forth by many speed reading programs and tools are probably too good to be true.

Golden sun rom my boy7/23/2023 And then, suddenly, people started playing the game within. Its sequel, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, tweaked and streamlined a bit, and actually enabled data transfers from the first game in the series.but it was the original release that made the biggest impact for Game Boy Advance gamers.Ī bad name with even worse box-art, Ninja Five-O hit the scene with a collective shrug by the gaming population. This game pushed amazing visuals, a dynamic soundtrack, and a complex story, and even though it focused on the archaic "random turn-based battles" mechanic for half of its gameplay, it was still a fulfilling console-style experience on such a small system. One of the first "hyped" games on the Game Boy Advance, Camelot - who had been making much of its money with Golf and Tennis games on the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy - returned to its RPG roots with an original adventure that could give Square's teams a run for their money. Though the development studio couldn't survive very long after Super Monkey Ball Jr.'s release, Realism went out with a bang with one of the finest console-to-handheld ports on the GBA. managed to really show off what the system could do, and it's rare to see a third-party developer pour so much effort into so many game modes on the portable system. The GBA version might not stand the test of time when compared to the rising power of other handhelds, but when it was released Super Monkey Ball Jr. The series began in the arcades and on the GameCube as a Marble Madness-inspired action game with tons of unlockable features and modes, and for the Game Boy Advance version the UK development studio Realism managed to squeak out every ounce of potential in the GBA's hardware to offer that same fun and frantic experience. Though THQ gave the Game Boy Advance rendition the moniker "junior," there was nothing small about this portable product. Stream it using an emulator on Twitch and your cozy gaming channel subs number will explode (disclaimer: not guaranteed!).For more modern Nintendo games, check out our list of the 25 best Nintendo Switch games, the best Nintendo 3DS games. The play at your own pace style gameplay is deceptively addictive and you can quite easily rack up 50-plus hours crafting your own little handheld slice of pastoral life. In this ‘slice of life’ game, your goal is to build and manage a successful farm by growing produce and raising livestock and to forge happy relationships with neighboring villagers. It’s since been honored with a 3D remake that you can play on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4. The first Harvest Moon game for Game Boy Advance was released in 2003 and to this day is still considered one of, if not the best game in the entire series. A couple of fantastic entries in the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series are the only GBA games that fit this description. Best casual farming GBA gamesįarming sims like Stardew Valley are wildly popular but, for a system with an incredible diversity of titles, the farming sim genre is somewhat underserved on the Game Boy Advance. We take a look at casual sims, charming RPGs and any other Game Boy Advance games you might enjoy if you’re on the hunt for easy going games that don’t require God-like reflexes or intense concentration. The Game Boy Advance‘s 32-bit visuals and charmingly limited sound capabilities contributed to the creation of some fantastic chill out classics.

Gitkraken reset profiles7/23/2023 The rebase option is usually considered to be the dangerous one, as you can lose commits or change everything in a way you didn’t intend. Also, you will perform a merge-and that might not be what you want. It’s clean and fast, but it gives you almost no control on what you want to do. The first option (merge) is very simple to perform. The first one is to use the git merge command with the squash flag (two dashes there).Īnd the second one is through an interactive rebase. There are actually two options for terminal people like me. (If you ask me, I would say I surely do!) And that’s why I’m going to explain step-by-step how to do a Git Squash in the terminal. But working in the terminal can make us feel powerful. To be honest, both repository servers and GUI tools are nice, since it is so simple to do there. GUI tools like SourceTree or GitKraken offer a similar option. When it’s merged, your branch gets squashed. Usually you just need to tick a box saying you want to squash or to choose squash merge strategy and you’re good to go. The easiest one is to take advantage of Git repository servers like GitHub that typically have this built in within the pull/merge request feature. There are actually a few ways to get there. Let’s discuss the ways you can achieve a Git Squash. And if you need to roll back a version, you can easily do so by just resetting that squashed commit. This way, you’ll achieve a simple and very straightforward tree. What if you could just merge one big commit with all those changes? You use Git Squash to make it happen and then you merge it back to your default branch. Git Squash can help here by substituting the whole feature branch into a single big commit in the default branch, thereby signaling a new version in the software.īut just merging the branch will be expensive and will make your tree messy. A commit in the default branch would itself be considered a tag for a new version. A little bit of context: on many occasions, I would not use Git tags in a specific repository to tag software versions. Git Squash can be used with a simple merge to simplify your project’s Git tree. This essentially makes it the same as having all the changes you made in several commits in just one commit-the base commit. Basically, you start by choosing a base commit and merging all changes from the next commits into this one. Git Squash is a Git feature that allows a dev to simplify the Git tree by merging sequential commits into one another. What Is Git Squash and Why Would I Use It? No problem! Git Squash is here to help you!Īnd this post will explore exactly that: what Git Squash is, why you should use it, some ways to perform it and a deeper explanation of two of those ways. In the end, maybe you should have had fewer commits than you actually have, and you don’t know how to fix it. Or you have a tight delivery of a very important feature, and you need to make sure everything is saved before signing out for the day. Maybe you needed to make a lot of commits because you forgot to remove comments in the code. Probably not because you wanted to, but because you just haven't mastered Git yet. Every now and then, you’ll make a mistake in your project’s Git tree.

Starfront collision gunner7/23/2023 They described him as a "lone gunman" who worked at the bank. MAPPING THE INCIDENT: Old National Bank shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, kills 5 What was the Louisville shooter's motive?Īuthorities have not yet released specific information about the shooter's motive. His father, Todd Sturgeon, resigned from Floyd Central in 2022 saying he wanted to spend more time with Connor and a younger son. Records show he attended Floyd Central High School in Indiana, just west of Louisville, where he played on the basketball team coached by his father. He started working fulltime for Old National Bank in June 2021, and was most recently a syndications associate and portfolio banker, according to his LinkedIn profile. The university said he was in the Accelerated Master’s Program so he also earned an MS in Finance when he graduated in Dec. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration – double major in finance and economics. The University of Alabama said Monday that Sturgeon attended UA from fall 2016 to December 2020. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg on Monday had called the rampage an "evil act of targeted violence." What we know about the attackerĪccording to his LinkedIn profile, which was taken down after the shooting, Sturgeon was a summer intern at the bank starting in 2018, and graduated from the University of Alabama, where he got both bachelor's and master's degrees by the end of 2020. local time and police said Sturgeon livestreamed the shooting.Īuthorities said Tuesday that he had legally purchased an AR-15 rifle from a local gun dealer a week ago. The shooter, who police identified as Connor Sturgeon, 25, died in an exchange of gunfire with police, investigators said. Authorities said Sturgeon fired multiple times inside the building, and then shot at responding officers with a rifle before being killed. With only three more days until the official release, we won't have to wait long to find out if Starfront: Collision lives up to all the hype.A lone gunman who attacked the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, killing five and injuring eight others, left a note behind and told at least one person he was suicidal, officials said Tuesday. It is sad that the game only supports 3rd and 4th generation devices, but I'm sure it was hard enough for the development team to squeeze out an acceptable level of performance during heavy combat on current devices. Hopefully, Gameloft has nailed the interface because a lot of fans have been waiting for a definitive iOS real time strategy game. The trailer also showcases a short segment of actual hands-on gameplay, and from what I can tell, the interface looks fairly intuitive. The trailer shows off some very nice graphics, and the framerate seems smooth even during intense action scenes. The game will have multiplayer in the form of "massive" 4-player local and online battles. To add to the chaos there is another race known as the Wardens (aka psychotic robots) who are bent on destroying everyone. The Consortium (aka humans) are mining Sinistral for precious Xenodium crystals, but the native Myriads (aka aliens) aren't keen on giving them up. This Starcraft "inspired" app features three factions struggling to obtain a rare resource on the planet Sinistral. To add to the chaos, a sentient robot race called the Wardens is trying to turn the war in their favor. The Myriad, an indigenous race of aliens, is addicted to Xenodium and will do everything they can to prevent the Consortium from plundering their resources. However, they are not the only ones after the rare mineral. Welcome to planet Sinistral, where rare Xenodium crystals are coveted by a human mining conglomerate called the Consortium. Thankfully that isn't the case, and all of the die hard strategy fans can now sleep better at night knowing this title will soon be theirs to command. I was beginning to worry that we might not see the title for months. This is great news because Gameloft has been pretty hush-hush with the title since its initial announcement. They also announced that the title will be available for purchase via the App Store on February 10th. Gameloft has finally released a gameplay trailer for their highly anticipated real time strategy title, Starfront: Collision. |
